Janel initially became involved in the program as a participant in 2014 when she was a 7th grade math teacher.  This experience was the catalyst to changing how she approached teaching mathematics, incorporating place-based, culturally relevant mathematics in lessons as well as helping others develop such lessons.  Janel currently serves as one of the instructors in the Ethnomathematics Graduate Certificate program
