Asian American/Canadian and Pacific Islanders (AACPI) Visibility and Invisibility—Creating Space of Learning and Unlearning
Presentation
This National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) keynote address brings visibility to the contributions of AACPI communities, leaders, and mathematics educators. Asian Americans/Canadians and Pacific Islanders are often an “add-on” in conversations about race and racism in mathematics education. This session centers the Asian American/Canadian and Pacific Islander perspective/experience and brings to light the untold histories and stories of our contributions and marginalization in US schools with the goal of building on these experiences to shape the work we do as equity-oriented mathematics educators.
