Computer science education in Hawai‘i public schools
Act 158 and its Implications
In 2021, a legislative mandate (Act 158) required all elementary, middle, and intermediate public schools in Hawai‘i to offer Computer Science courses or content by the 2024-2025 school year. This project supports HIDOE in analyzing its progress toward fulfilling this mandate, building a shared understanding of the legislation’s requirements, writing the annual legislative report on CS education, and directly supporting HIDOE Complex Areas as they implement the necessary changes to align with the law.
