Did you always know you wanted to become a teacher? Briefly describe your road to this pathway.
No, I did not. I wanted to become a teacher after coaching. I originally wanted to be a math teacher, but I enjoy helping students with special needs so I changed to special education. I also have a brother that has autism.

How did you become interested in special education?
After working in general education, inclusion, and in CBI I realized how much I loved working with ESN students and how much they appreciate my help.

Why did you choose to pursue the BEd in Special Education program?
This program offers everything I needed to become licensed.

What has been the best part of the program for you so far?
Working with the students, meeting all the wonderful teacher candidates, and learning from our great instructors.

In what ways do you hope to make a difference using the knowledge you have gained?
I hope to show everyone that there are no limits, no matter what uphill battle you must face. with determination and hard work.

How are the people and the program in the COE helping you along your way to becoming a teacher?
I have gained great friendships and support for completing this journey.

Have you received any funding for your program? If yes, which ones and how has having this funding supported you on this journey?
The DOE stipend. Without this funding, I wouldn’t be able to afford college.

Anything else you would like to share?
I am the head coach for Boys and Girls soccer. I am also the Head coach for Track & Field. I also am currently an ELA 9th grade teacher at Kaimuki High School.
