Join us for the EDEF Monthly Talk : “Critical Pragmatism and the Design of ‘Problem-Solving Publics’“
Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, from 12:00 – 1:30 PM in Wist 233.
Dr. Glenn Savage, policy sociologist, and associate professor in the Faculty of Education at University of Melbourne, will be our speaker.
Join us to explore critical pragmatism as a foundation for addressing public problems in education. Reflecting on broader sociological debates about the role of critique and his own work on the evolving field of critical policy sociology in education, Savage will advocate for a new wave of scholarship that generates actionable solutions for societal improvement. He will explain how his current research seeks to blend principles from critical pragmatism and critical design theory to generate transformative potential for researchers and policymakers to work together to co-design education futures. This approach not only bridges the divide between critique and action, but also reinvigorates the role of researchers as public intellectuals, capable of engaging with and influencing public policy through the creation of “problem-solving publics.”
Pizza will be provided! Please RSVP to help us plan accordingly.
