Career Trajectory
Before obtaining my degree, I was a Social Studies teacher at Roosevelt High School. I wanted to continue my growth as an educator so I enrolled in the MEd summer program in Educational Leadership. While in the program I met a bunch of wonderful educators dedicated to their profession and their students. It was in this program that I was encouraged to pursue a PhD by one of my professors, Clifton Tanabe. His guidance was instrumental in my success during my PhD journey. One field of interest was educational law and examining policies that hurt our public education. After graduating, I got a Social Studies job at Punahou School. I have presented at several conferences locally and on the continent. Additionally, I co-taught an Ethnic Studies/Sociology class at UH Manoa called Race and Ethnicity in Hawaii. The PhD degree has provided more opportunities than I imagined.
