How to Apply Instructions

The application process consists of TWO parts. Both parts must be completed prior to the deadline. The application period is open from May 1 to Oct 1. If you have any questions regarding these requirements or need assistance with the application process, please contact coeinfo@hawaii.edu

  • Semester: Spring 2025
  • Complete Licensure Track Application Checklist
    • Be sure to review each item and make sure you understand before checking the box:
      • Read Gainful Employment Information
      • Completed Baccalaureate Degree
      • Cumulative GPA – 2.75 or higher
      • Completed Prerequisite Courses
    • Checklist items requiring additional information/materials:
      • Apply to UH System – More detailed instructions & links for submitting the UH application are provided in the next section of this website.
      • Hawaii DOE Employment
      • Upload 40 Hours of Group Leadership Experience form
      • Download Interview with Program information
      • Write your Personal Statement & Essay
      • List Three Professional References (name, email, phone #)
      • List repeated Courses (if any)
      • Prior Post-Secondary Program Enrollment – verify if you have ever been dismissed from a program previously. If yes, please share the circumstances for the dismissal.

Note: Once you start your Mākālei application, an email with more detailed information and support for completing your application materials will be automatically sent to you. The steps for applying to the Hawai‘i Grow Our Own Teachers Initiative Stipend Application will also be provided within that email.

UH Mānoa System Application Form ($70 – fee waiver available for Hawaii residents) + official transcripts

Note: Because this program is charged undergraduate tuition rates, please do not submit a Graduate Division application when applying to this program. Use the link provided below.

Note: Please only use one email address for your UH application – if you log into your application and change the email address in your file during or after you submit your application, it will delay processing and admissions decisions.

        • Choose 2nd Bachelor
        • Planned Course of Study: Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Elementary Education (Spring Admission only)
        • Number of transfer credits: You can skip by putting ‘0’
      • Previous College Coursework: Please list the institution where you received your bachelor’s degree and any coursework thereafter.
      • Unofficial Transcripts: Upload a copy if you have them
      • SKIP – Personal Statement & Achievement sections (not needed)
    • Final Steps
      • Tuition Classifications – Complete the Residency Classification information
      • General Data Protection Regulation – Select ‘No’ (Unless you are physically in the European Union when you apply)
      • Request an Application Fee Waiver – All Hawaii residents are eligible for the application fee waiver. For non-residents, select “Other” and use the code PCERT to have your fee waived. Submit and wait for confirmation of approval prior to fully submitting the application.
      • Final Step: Verify everything is correct by checking ‘Yes’

Once you finish submitting your UH application, please send official transcripts if you received your bachelor’s degree or higher from a non-UH institution. If you received your degree from a University of Hawaiʻi System institution (i.e., UHM, UHH, UHWO, or any Hawaii Community College) you do not need to send any official transcripts.

Official transcripts must be submitted directly from your college or university to UH Mānoa. You are required to submit transcripts from the institution you received your bachelor’s degree from and any additional institutions you attended thereafter. Unofficial, faxed, hand-carried, or student copies of academic documents will not be accepted as official transcripts.
