Collaborating partners: Creating spaces to discuss Equity and Inclusion in STEM

This session will focus on a workshop offered through the collaboration between the local Science Centre, a STEM organization, and a local University. This collaboration offered an opportunity for various groups pf people to explore issues of underrepresentation and equity among historically marginalized communities in STEM education and fields. The findings of this study explore i) the need/value of STEM workshops for learning equity and inclusion, ii) the lack of awareness surrounding marginalization and privilege in STEM fields, and iii) the reality regarding who is more likely to qualify to work in STEM fields and what the barriers are for those who do not. A dialogue within the current political context of systemic racism, which is a focus across the globe, and this relevant study will be under review.
