Title

Sea-Earth-Atmosphere: ocean-based lessons for Grades 3-5

Type

Talk Story / Paper

Description

This talk-story presentation will begin with a short introduction to navigating the online Sea-Earth-Atmosphere (SEA) content and activities. We will then share examples of Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science lessons in Grades 3, 4, and 5 (SeaEarthAtmosphere.org).

SEA is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the Ocean Literacy Principles (OLP), revised from the original NOAA curriculum. SEA lessons and activities focus on NGSS standards for which learning ocean concepts is essential to understanding the standard. The SEA materials also have explicit connections to traditional ecological knowledge and indigenous ways of knowing, focused on the Pacific and Hawai’i. In addition, there are connections to help students learn about and make connections to the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS).
