Description

Bloom’s taxonomy is a hierarchical framework in which attainment of each tier is built upon the level before it (McDaniel, 2020). Objectives and assessments are made by the successful completion of each Bloom’s Taxonomy level. Three-unit plans with five lessons per unit were assessed during the study. Therefore, a total of fifteen lesson plans were evaluated. These lesson plans were created by preservice teachers who attended science methods for teachers’ course. All lesson plans were created for either fourth or fifth grade students. The results suggested that 33.3% of preservice teachers fully incorporated the Bloom’s Taxonomy verb “create” or another form of the verb in every lesson plan. Surprisingly, none of the lesson plans successfully incorporated opportunities for students to self-assess and/or peer-assess their learning.
