About

The goal of the Kūlia Support Project (KSP) is to enhance and adapt a promising support model to address the needs of Native Hawaiian students who are at risk of school failure. In order to demonstrate the viability of the model for supporting this population of students, KSP will perform direct support of students and professional development training activities for students and community college staff to support the development of skills and knowledge for students to persevere and succeed in postsecondary education and realize positive employment outcomes. The project builds on and continues research into evidence-based practices for skill development and strategies for supporting diverse student populations. KSP’s goal is to expand model supports to each of the campuses of the University of Hawai‘i Community College (UHCC) system, resulting in improved access, retention, and program of study completion resulting in outcomes of quality employment and/or admission to a four-year program of study. Project personnel will pursue participatory action research to ensure fidelity to the support framework and examine the various needs encountered by students at each UHCC site and the communities they support.
