About

Hawaii WIPA (Work Incentives Planning and Assistance) provides in-depth counseling about the effect of work on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and other disability benefits. The goal of WIPA is to help beneficiaries make informed choices and have a successful transition to self-sufficiency.

Eligibility

WIPA services are available to individuals who are receiving a Social Security benefit based on disability AND working, looking for work or thinking about returning to work. Social Security benefits based on disability include:

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
  • Childhood Disability Benefits (CDB)
  • Disabled Widow Benefits (DWB)

Social Security Work Incentives

Work Incentives make it possible for you to explore work while still receiving health care and cash benefits; they are designed to help you succeed!

  • Minimize your risk of losing SSI and Medicaid.
  • Extend your eligibility for SSDI and Medicare.
  • Allow Social Security to not count some of your income or resources.
  • Access free vocational services.
