How to Apply Instructions

Mākālei is the College of Education’s online application website. Within Mākālei, you will be guided step-by-step through the application process, including applying to UH Mānoa.

1- Begin by clicking the Apply Now through Mākālei button below!

2- Log in to Mākālei

Students new to the College of Education, set up an account in Mākālei:

    • If you have a UH Username, select, UH username and password.
    • If you do not have a UH Username, select, Create an account and that will lead you to the steps to create a Mākālei account.

Students with existing Mākālei account:

    • If you have a UH Username, select, UH username and password.
    • If you have previously created a Mākālei account with a non-UH email address please select, Personal email & password.

3- Program, Track & Options:

  • Once logged in, you will see the Select a Program page. Your program and track should already be selected.
  • Confirm your degree level (i.e. Master’s Degree, Doctoral Degree, Graduate Certificate), and
  • Confirm the program and track you are applying for. Click Start Journey to continue.
  • You will then be provided with program options. Confirm your starting semester, track, and delivery option. Some programs may require you to select from additional program options. Once completed, click Continue.

4- Admission Checklist

  • The checklist will walk you through all the requirements of the application process including applying to UH Mānoa.
  • Please read through the checklist carefully and make sure you understand and complete each step.

5- Confirm & Submit Materials

  • Upon completing the checklist, click Next and Mākālei will prompt you to confirm and submit your materials. You will receive an email confirmation once your application has been submitted.

What should I include in a statement of objectives?
The Statement of Objectives is a very important first writing sample for prospective applicants so please take the time to show us your best writing. Include information that explains:

  • why you are interested in pursuing a Masters in Curriculum Studies and in your particular program area of interest
  • the experience, education, personal and professional qualities you feel will contribute to your success in the program,
  • how you intend for your experience in the program to further your educational, leadership, and career goals; and,
  • any additional information that will help the review committee as we review your application.
