Dr. Chih-Pu Dai, an assistant professor in the Department of Learning Design and Technology (LTEC), recently published two journal articles on artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

“Effects of Artificial Intelligence-Powered Virtual Agents on Learning Outcomes in Computer-Based Simulations: A Meta-Analysis”

Published in Educational Psychology Review*, this article reveals a medium positive overall effect for using AI-powered virtual agents in article journal covercomputer-based simulations for learning. The article also provides design implications for the use of AI-powered virtual agents in computer-based simulations for learning.

“Designing Learning Support for Simulation-Based Preservice Teacher Learning with Artificial Intelligence-Powered Virtual Agents”

This article is published in the International Journal of Educational Media and Technology and is guest edited by LTEC Emeritus Professors, Curtis Ho and Bert Kimura.

*Educational Psychology Review is ranked number 2 in the Educational Psychology category within SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index).

Dr. Chih-Pu Dai’s research agenda involves the design and development of innovative and inclusive advanced learning technologies as well as learning design solutions to support teaching and learning for K–12 and adult learners in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics + computing (STEM + C) disciplines. His research interests and areas of expertise focus on Artificial Intelligence in Education, Extended Reality, Game-Based Learning, and Simulation-Based Learning.
