Kelvin Chun, who earned his MEd in Educational Technology (now Learning Design and Technolgy), has been making the news for his award-winning kite creations and flying skills. He is the first kite engineer from Hawaiʻi to win an international competition in Weifang, China, which is considered the Olympics of kite festivals.
In 1995, Chun completed his masterʻs project focusing on kite aerodynamics instructional design. He retired in 2014 after 30 years as an educator with the Hawaiʻi Department of Education, serving as a technology resource teacher and developing educational technology workshops. He says kite making and flying are some of the best ways to teach keiki and adults about mathematics, science, art and history.
