Recent updates from the CRDG Pacific Literacy Consortium (PLC)* include new podcasts in their PEP Talk (Pacific Education Pulse) series and a statewide summer reading program called the #808Reads challenge.
PEP Talk features movers and shakers in the field of education who are positively impacting Hawai‘i and beyond. In the latest episode (Episode 7), Jennifer LaGarde discusses her book, Fact vs. Fiction: Teaching Critical Thinking Skills in the Age of Fake News. Past guests include Hawai‘i Department of Education (HIDOE) leaders, an urban art legend, and neuroscientists. All episodes are available on any podcast directory, including Apple Podcasts.
The #808Reads challenge is coordinated by HIDOE Library Media Services in partnership with PLC. The goal of the program is for all participating students to collectively hit 25 million minutes by the end of summer 2020. See the 30-second PSA (bottom of page).
*PLC’s mission is to build and align strategic partnerships that foster developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative educational approaches designed to improve literacy rates in Hawaiʻi and throughout the Pacific.
