COE Alumni Association

President's Message:

Aloha Friends,

Steve Shiraki

Over the past two years the pandemic has provided the association with a unique opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments over the past 30 years and develop an enhanced vision for the future of the COEAA. Our alumni continue to be a critical resource in the advancement focus of the college. Additionally, we have also acknowledged that our alumni play an important role in a range of educational contexts in communities across the state and nation.

Accordingly, the COEAA continues its outreach to COE alumni, especially recent graduates who are beginning their careers and developing a professional identity. We encourage alumni at all levels to connect with the alumni association and provide continuing support for the College of Education and its growing alumni base.

Over time, the association has forged a strong relationship with the college and will continue to do so, guided by the fundamental vision, mission, and strategic plan for the college. Additionally, we also desire to create forums of support for aspiring educators who are currently enrolled in a range of degree programs that serve the communities throughout the state and beyond.

Our goals and related activities are founded in the creative and innovative ideas of alumni and others who desire to make a contribution to the professional growth of aspiring educators in the college and in the broader expanse of the diverse communities throughout the state, particularly where our keiki receive access to a quality PreK–12 education. We hope that you will join us in this collaborative endeavor. If you are interested in taking a more active role in the association, please go the the University of Hawaii Alumni Association (UHAA) website and update your contact information, which includes joining the COEAA.

Mahalo,

Steven M. Shiraki, Ph.D.
President, COEAA
