    Brief Biography

Kanesa Duncan Seraphin is a professor in the Curriculum Research & Development Group (CRDG) at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UHM) and the director of the Hawai‘i Sea Grant Center for Marine Science Education. Kanesa holds a BS in biology, an MS in zoology, a PhD in zoology (for work in marine biology, molecular genetics, ecology, and science education), and a post-baccalaureate education certificate in secondary science education. She is also an experienced classroom teacher and holds a secondary science credential for the state of Hawaii. Kanesa is passionate about teaching and learning science. She researches and develops science curriculum, applies and expands science professional development models, and facilitates partnerships among professional science researchers, education researchers, and teachers of students in Grades K–12, college, and nontraditional education settings. She works to build bridges between research science and science education not only within the university and academic arenas but also within the community to better communicate science to the public.
