The COE Center on Disability Studies (CDS) is sponsoring a talk with Yoshiko Okuyama, a professor of Japanese studies at UH Hilo. Okuyama will discuss her chapter on the deaf community in Japan and their representation in manga from her recent book, Reframing Disability in Manga (University of Hawaii Press, 2020), and will address emerging issues impacting disability communities in Japan as the pandemic continues.
