Stevenson Middle School, located in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our dynamic team. This position focuses on a fully self-contained classroom within our Community-Based Instructional Program (CBI). Our CBI program emphasizes individualized instruction and fosters a love of learning for all students.
About the Position:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for a small group of middle school students with diverse learning needs
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes joy, engagement, and student-centered learning
- Supervise educational assistants or other adult support who work 1:1 with students
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to ensure a well-rounded educational experience for your students
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and data-driven practices to meet the individual needs of each student
- Stay current on best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid Hawaiʻi Teaching License in Special Education (Learning Disabilities or General)
- Minimum of two years of successful teaching experience in a special education setting, preferably at the middle school level
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction, positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), and data-driven decision making
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a positive and nurturing classroom environment
- Commitment to fostering a love of learning and celebrating the unique abilities of each student
