Jennifer Hudson, who earned a BEd in Elementary Education from the College of Education (COE), was featured this week in a UH sustainability story. In the news video, she and UH President/UH Mānoa Interim Chancellor David Lassner discuss a project Hudson’s fourth grade class presented, called “Make the Ala Wai Awesome.”

Students worked together in groups to exhibit sustainability-themed models and research. Projects included prototypes for filtering trash from the Ala Wai Canal before it reaches the ocean.

Lassner commended Hudson for fostering a creative team learning environment and for allowing her students to engage in real world problem solving. Hudson paid tribute to the COE, particularly her cohort coordinator Rosela Balinbin (Santos), for preparing her for the classroom and collaborative learning.

The video caught the media’s attention and was aired on KGMB, KHNL, and KITV throughout May 2–3, 2017.
