Emma Adventure Cover

OSAS Advisor Alyssa Kapaona has written a book for young children entitled Emma’s Adventure: Mommy’s Work Trip. The book is based on her experience leaving her daughter for the first time to attend a conference. She wanted a way to explain the abstract nature of working in higher education to her young child. In Emma’s Adventure, Kapaona combines her knowledge of early childhood education and her love of writing to create a story.

Alyssa Kapaona has been in the field of education for over ten years. She has spent most of her time teaching, with classroom experience from preschool through college. Alyssa has a bachelor’s of science degree in human development and family studies with an emphasis on early childhood and a masters of education in educational administration (EDEA) with a focus on higher education, both from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She currently works as an academic advisor at the College of Education and is pursuing a doctoral degree in EDEA. Her most important roles are wife and mother of two young girls. In her free time, she enjoys being at the beach with her family. Alyssa resides in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi.
